To nye rapporter fra OCLC

OCLC udgiver med jævne mellemrum spændende rapporter. I juni udsendte de to rapporter med stor interesse for forskningsbibliotekerne.

1/ At a Tipping Point: Education, Learning and Libraries
Hent full text: At a Tipping Point: Education, Learning and Libraries (118 s./pdf)

Om rapporten:
In this latest report to the OCLC membership, At a Tipping Point: Education, Learning and Libraries, OCLC explores the information consumer’s behaviors, beliefs and expectations for online learning.
Fueled by mobile devices, new learning platforms and economic incentives, learners are trying and achieving success with new learning models. The information consumer has become an online education consumer.
The study aims to provide librarians with important information about the trends and triggers that are reshaping education—and the opportunities and challenges this shift brings to libraries.

2/ Reordering Ranganathan: Shifting User Behaviors, Shifting Priorities
Hent full text: Reordering Ranganathan: Shifting User Behaviors, Shifting Priorities (136 s./pdf)

Om rapporten:
This report suggests that Shiyali Ramamrita Ranganathan’s Five Laws of Library Science  can be reordered and reinterpreted to reflect today’s library resources and services, as well as the behaviors that people demonstrate when engaging with them.

CRAP står for Currency, Reliability, Authority, Purpose.

Hele undersøgelsen: Ithaka S+R US Library Survey 2013 (60 s./pdf)

In the Ithaka S+R US Library Survey 2013 report we examine how the leaders of academic libraries are approaching systemic changes in their environment and the opportunities and constraints they face in leading their organizations.

Ithaka S+R US Library Survey 2013

Indhold:
Preface. Executive Summary. Introduction, Strategy and Leadership, Budgets and Staffing, Undergraduates and Information Literacy, Collections, Discovery, Scholarly Communication and Research Support og Conclusion.

Fra konklusionen:
The 2013 cycle of the Library Survey finds some important changes in academic libraries over the past three years. Library directors’ attitudes toward print collections are shifting, with respondents placing less emphasis on building library collections. Research support is changing, with many respondents reporting the deployment of innovative new services for faculty members despite some declines in the share who place high value on supporting faculty research. At the same time, more and more directors are embracing a strong role for their libraries in undergraduate teaching and information literacy education.

Forskere, forskning og forskningsbiblioteker

ARL udgav sidste år (august 2013) en rapport om kontakten mellem bibliotek og forskere – New Roles for New Times: ARL Publishes Report on Transforming Liaison Roles in Research Libraries

Hele rapporten New Roles for New Times: Transforming Liaison Roles in Research Libraries (18 s./pdf)

om rapporten

The report proposes that evolving research library environments—including shifting  technology, student learning, and scholarly practices—call for a fresh look into the role of research library liaisons. Through their interviews, Jaguszewski and Williams find a general consensus that changing liaison roles are presenting organizational challenges, including identifying limitations to individual expertise, redesigning related institutional structures, and ensuring liaisons have proper training and know-how. The authors present an overall trend toward a hybrid model where liaisons pair their expertise with that of functional specialists, both within and outside of libraries, in an effort to further meet the needs of students and scholars alike.

Rapporten udpeger seks trends:

Trend 1: Develop user-centered library services
Trend 2: A hybrid model of liaison and functional specialist is emerging
Trend 3: Organizational flexibility must meet changing user needs
Trend 4: No liaison is an island
Trend 5: Collaboration is key
Trend 6: Create and sustain a flexible workforce
